Using your Piksters interdental brushes

Which size is mine?
The colour of the handle tells you the size — from 000, the finest, up to 9.
The gaps between your teeth aren’t all the same, so many people use two or three sizes. We’ll show you which colours fit where at your appointment.

Step by step

Check the fit
The brush should slide in with a little resistance. If you have to push, go down a size. If it slides through loosely, go up one.
Never force a brush into a gap — it can hurt your gums and bend the wire.

Front teeth: go in straight
Hold the brush at the gum line and ease it straight through the gap from the front, with a gentle twist to help it in.

Back teeth: bend the neck first
Gently bend the brush just below the bristles so you can reach the back teeth from the cheek side. Or use an angled Piksters brush, which is already bent for you.

Brush in and out a few times
Move the brush gently back and forth two or three times in each gap, then move on to the next. Go all the way round the top teeth, then the bottom.

Rinse it and let it dry
Rinse the brush under the tap and let it air-dry. You can reuse it until the bristles look flattened or the wire bends — then it’s time for a new one.
A little bleeding at first is normal
If your gums are inflamed, they can bleed for the first week or two of cleaning between your teeth. Keep going gently — the bleeding usually settles as your gums get healthier.
If it hasn’t settled after two weeks of daily cleaning, let us know.
Common questions
Do I still need to floss?
For most gaps, an interdental brush that fits well does the job instead of floss. Where teeth sit too tightly for even the smallest brush, floss is still the right tool — we’ll show you where.
Should I put toothpaste on it?
There’s no need. Use it dry, or wet it with water first.
Can I use them around braces, bridges or implants?
Yes — they’re handy for cleaning around brackets, under bridges and around implants. Ask us which size suits each spot.

Pharmacies and supermarkets stock Piksters, sorted by handle colour. Take note of your colours — or ask us.
