Our clinical team caring for a patient at Southside Dental Toowoomba

What to do right now

While you arrange an appointment, these steps can help protect your tooth and manage discomfort:

Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water, use over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the packet, and apply a cold compress to your cheek. Avoid very hot or cold food and drinks.

Knocked-out tooth

Handle the tooth by the crown (not the root). If possible, gently place it back in the socket or keep it in milk, and contact us immediately — time matters.

Lost filling or crown

Keep the crown or filling if you can and bring it to your appointment. Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side.

Chipped or broken tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water, save any pieces, and apply a cold compress if there is swelling.

After-hours emergencies

Outside our opening hours, SMS 0451 442 722 and we will get back to you as soon as possible. During opening hours, call 07 4635 1444 — Monday–Wednesday 8am–7pm, Thursday 8am–6pm, Friday 8am–4.30pm.

If you have facial swelling affecting your breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or a serious facial injury, go to your nearest hospital emergency department first.

What does an emergency appointment cost?

Our emergency examination is $95 — that covers the consultation and an X-ray (health fund item codes 013 and 022), so we can find the cause of the problem, get you comfortable and explain your options. Any treatment you then need is quoted in writing before it begins, with payment plans from $20 a week available. See the full pricing guide.
