Southside Dental Toowoomba is a member of Westfund's Provider of Choice network. Westfund members on any extras or combined hospital-and-extras policy can have selected preventive dental — check-ups, scale and cleans, X-rays and fluoride — with no out-of-pocket cost, up to their annual limit. How Westfund's Provider of Choice network works
Westfund is a regional not-for-profit fund with deep roots in mining and country communities, which is why it's common around Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. Its Provider of Choice network is a group of dentists and physios who've agreed to work with Westfund to lower or remove the gap on selected treatments.
The dental arrangement is simpler than most funds': Westfund states that members on any extras-only or combined hospital and extras policy are completely covered for selected preventive dental services at a Provider of Choice dentist, up to their annual limit, with waiting periods possibly applying. The services are check-ups, scale and cleans, X-rays and fluoride treatments (Westfund also lists mouthguards, which we don't currently provide). There's no tier to qualify for — if you have Westfund extras with dental and limit remaining, you're covered.

What that means at Southside Dental
Our 6-monthly active maintenance visit — examination (item 012), scale and clean (114) and fluoride (121) — falls squarely within the covered services, as do any X-rays (022) we take on the day. For a Westfund extras member with limit remaining, there's nothing to pay at the desk.
New to the practice? The $199 new patient offer (comprehensive examination 011, scale and clean, fluoride, two X-rays and a treatment plan) is claimable on the same item codes, and $199 is the most you'll ever be charged for it.
For fillings, crowns, root canal and other treatment, Westfund pays its network rate, which is higher than at a non-network dentist. A gap usually remains; your written quote shows the exact figure before treatment begins. Full fees and item codes are on the pricing page.

Westfund suggests confirming that your dentist is registered as a Provider of Choice before booking — search "Southside Dental Toowoomba" in their Find a Provider tool.
- Ask us. Call 07 4635 1444 or send your membership number through the contact form. We'll run a HICAPS quote and confirm what Westfund pays and whether anything is left for you to pay.
Claiming on the day
Westfund asks members to let the practice know they're with Westfund — so mention it when you book or arrive. Bring your membership card and we claim through HICAPS at reception; the benefit comes straight off the bill. If there's a gap on non-preventive treatment, you pay that on the day.

Is my check-up free with Westfund?
For members on any Westfund extras or combined policy, the check-up, scale and clean, fluoride and X-rays are covered with no out-of-pocket cost at a Provider of Choice dentist, up to your annual limit. Waiting periods may apply if you've recently joined or upgraded.
What if I've used up my dental limit for the year?
Once your annual limit is reached, Westfund pays no further benefit until it resets. You'd pay our standard capped fee of $220 for a maintenance visit, or you can wait for your limit to renew — tell us and we'll book accordingly.
Do you make mouthguards?
No — we don't currently provide custom mouthguards. Westfund's program does cover them, so if you need one, another Provider of Choice dentist can supply it under the same arrangement.
Does the $199 new patient offer work with Westfund?
Yes. It's claimable on standard item codes (011, 114, 121, 022 ×2). We claim on the spot and $199 is the most you'll pay.
Are fillings gap-free?
No. The no-gap arrangement covers preventive services. For fillings and other treatment Westfund pays its network rate and you pay the remaining gap shown on your written quote.
